Dizziness is a common complaint made by patients to healthcare providers, physicians and physical therapists included. Dizziness symptoms can significantly alter a patient’s life, many times leading to functional disability and depression. The vestibular system is implicated in a large percentage of dizziness cases. Knowledge of the vestibular system, vestibular system dysfunction, and vestibular rehabilitation is essential in today’s healthcare environment. This introductory course will lay a foundation for understanding dizziness, the physical therapist’ role in examination, and the basic anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system.

Presenter: Paul G. Vidal, DPT, MHSc, OCS, FAAOMPT
Paul specializes in manual physical therapy examination and treatment of spinal disorders and in vestibular rehabilitation, treating patients with inner-ear related disorders (eg: benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, vestibular neuritis/labrynthitis). He earned his Herdman certificate of achievement in vestibular rehabilitation through Emory University School of Medicine. He also treats patients who have sustained a concussion with post-concussion rehabilitation. Paul serves as a guest lecturer to several Philadelphia area Physical Therapy programs teaching general orthopedics, manual physical therapy, vestibular rehabilitation, and medical screening. Paul has published several peer-review articles on the topic of dizziness and often presents at state and national conferences.
